How to get started with Practical Legal Research Online

Are you struggling with the transition from textbooks to doing independent legal research? If so, this session is designed for all ULaw students to help with that transition. We will move from Secondary to Primary sources of law quickly and effectively. It will guide you through using Halsbury’s Laws online and Overviews on Lexis Library and Westlaw respectively to find good primary resources. We will be using the Legislation Snapshot and Case Analysis to find further information. We will also explore Practical Law and how to find practical legal information.

You will be asked to join in with two in-depth practical legal scenarios during the session(s) so please make sure you have access to the relevant databases prior to joining.

Terry Dooley from the Manchester, Liverpool and Chester Campuses will give his own methodology of how he would solve the scenarios as part of the interactive side of the session. All students are welcome to join.
